DIY Melamine and Wood Slide

I'm still hard at work on my son’s room makeover. Today’s task is building a melamine and wood slide. I couldn't find any tutorials that were exactly what I wanted so I took pieces of different ideas and started dreaming up what I wanted from scratch. Being able to get creative with planning and giving myself the challenge is one of my favorite things to do! You've probably seen a fair amount of slides people are adding to their playrooms. They are getting pretty popular but the plastic slides are SO expensive. I did a little digging and found a couple of people who had made wood and melamine slides but they didn't give a step by step tutorial. So, once I figured it out for myself, I knew I wanted to share it so you can make one, too!

Making Over My Sons Room Part 2: The Bed

Welcome back to another installment of making over my son’s bedroom. To recap, his room is on the third floor of our house. It's a huge room that will be multipurpose as a guest room, a playroom and his bedroom. The next step in my plan was to make the Murphy bed. I was super excited about this. I got the plans and the parts and was reading the instructions when I realized that I would need to pivot because my son started climbing out of his crib. Our daughter used to climb out of her crib, but once she fell out and got hurt she learned not to go it again. My son, however, is taking it to the next level. He is 2.5 years old but with the size and strength of a 5-year-old. One morning, we went to wake him up and found an empty crib. We frantically searched the house and eventually found him on the main floor (so down 2 flights of stairs) sleeping on the couch. We realized he had made it out of his crib, down the stairs, into his sisters room, out of his sisters room, down another flight of stairs and into the family room. Apparently I am raising a ninja because we didn't hear a thing! We realized that we had to do something to keep him in his bedroom for his safety and quickly so that took priority over the Murphy bed. So I went to work building him his own bed.

Textured Accent Wall

Hi friends! My name is Sydney. I'm the resident craft queen here on the Breezing Through team. There is a wall in my kitchen that I have been debating about doing something to for a while. It's a central focal point in our home, so I knew that I wanted to do something special. So, with no concrete plan in mind and a lot of unwarranted confidence, I grabbed some joint compound and some floral stencils and went to work.

Front Porch Refresh

Our front porch definitely needed a refresh. The concrete was turning green  and the wood swing I built the first year we lived here was coming apart with mushrooms growing out of it. The whole thing wasn’t a good look so I decided to overhaul the entire space.

Adding Storage Cubbies

As most of you know, I have been gradually adding storage all over our house because it's always lacked in the storage department. Well, the day has finally come for me to share the storage cubbies that I made in my daughters room! I've shown you how I made the chair for her, how I organized all of her toys for this space, and I'm now finally done with the cubbies.

DIY Custom Desk Chair

I recently started on a big project in my daughter's room: adding more cubbies. If you've been around for a little bit, you might remember that I added shelves and a play area to her bedroom a few years ago and painted them pink to match her bathroom. It's been great thus far, but over the years she's acquired a lot more stuff. She's autistic and collects things, particularly toys. So we needed more space to put her stuff. Since her room has almost zero storage I needed to come up with a solution. My mom suggested wall to wall cubbies with a desk in the middle. I'm in the process of working on that, but in the meantime I built a custom desk and chair to go with it.

DIY Corner Cabinet Drawers

Today I'm finally doing something that I've always wanted to do in our house: adding shelves to the weird corner cabinet in our kitchen. It's kind of a like an "L " shape except there is no actual "L" because there is no corner just a really weird angle. I've really been wanting to better utilize this space so I don't have to take everything out in order to reach something. I've looked at different corner cabinet devices that you can buy online, but they're like $600 for a basic one, which is insane! Instead, I saw someone that I follow that build a corner cabinet that was exactly like mine with custom drawers and realized that I can probably simulate the same thing with drawers from Amazon. It's an easy addition that makes a really big impact.

DIY Flower Mirror

Today I'm sharing a fairly simple DIY project that I've been wanting to do for a really long time. When we moved into our house, I immediately started personalizing and updating our spaces. One of the places I started was my daughter's bathroom. I added vertical shiplap next to her bathtub so I could hang hooks because anyone that has kids knows that hooks are far superior to towel rods. After that, I painted and changed out the hardware on her vanity and sink. It's pink and girly and very her. The one thing I didn't address at the time, though, was her mirror.

Wood Play Car

For the second half of 2024, my family lived in Argentina. We fell in love with the playgrounds in Buenos Aires, they are the best! At one of playgrounds there was an awesome wood play car that my kids and I were absolutely obsessed with. I knew that I wanted to replicate it at home and since my parents have been in the process of redoing their yard we had the space for it. So, after we got home and I got a few other small projects done I knew that it was time to make THE car!
