Spring and Summer Tile Mat Designs

DIY

I'm back with some more spring and summer tile mat designs! If you've been here for a while you know I love my Letterfolk tile mat and I love making designs. I've been doing it for a few years now and love that I'm able to express my creativity through the mat. I originally got the white mat, but ended up switching to the black mat to avoid sun discoloration. There used to be a designer feature on the website but that is gone now. They also used to sell a bunch of different colored tiles like the ones I am using for these designs. However, it looks like they have limited their selection to only black and white in recent months so all of the colors I'm using are from my collection. If you want to recreate the designs for yourself, you may be able to find some online on eBay, Poshmark or Mercari. In the meantime, I've got five designs for you today.

Spring and Summer Tile Mat Designs | Argentina Flag

The first design is the Argentine flag because, in case you missed it, we spent six months in Argentina last year and I wanted to do an Argentine design to remind us of our time there. The flag consists of three stripes: blue, white, blue, with a sun in the middle. I didn't have enough of the blue or white to do solid stripes so I decided to space it out a little bit. I started with 13 Daffodil tiles for the sun in the very middle of the mat, and then used 45 Fog tiles for three white stripes. I finished off the stripes with 102 Atlantic Blue tiles for the blue stripes. I discovered a spacing issue with the top stripe and wanted the blue and white stripes to touch in the middle so I had to shift the design about halfway through. I like that this design is pretty simple but still subtly reminds us of our time in Argentina.

Spring and Summer Tile Mat Designs | Florals

The next design is inspired by hand embroidery, something I've been really interested in recently. I absolutely love flowers on the tile mat. The floral designs I have created have been some of my very favorites designs. For this one, I decided to be a little bit more adventurous and go with a bunch of different kinds of flowers. I started with a few sunflowers and then added more that touched each other. I filled in the bottom part of the design with stems. I used 65 Light Green and and 60 Evergreen tiles, alternating between the two to give variation in the stems and so there was depth difference between different kinds of flowers. I added white and pink daisies (which are hands-down my favorite flower ever) and then just kept adding different flowers at different heights to make it look like a garden. I used 50 Yellow, 18 Atlantic Blue, 20 Lavender, 14 Fog, 4  Black, 13 Red, 24 Light Pink and 10 Dark Pink tiles for the flowers. I added a bumblebee using 4 Fog, 4 Yellow and 3 Black tiles which I thought was really cute.

Spring and Summer Tile Mat Designs | Tulips & Butterflies

This is another design inspired by hand embroidery. I really liked the idea of tulips when I was messing around with designs because tulips are made pretty easily with the tiles. I'm did three rows of tulips using 30 Yellow, 36 Light Pink, 36 Red tiles for the flowers and 64 Light Green tiles for the stems. I added some cute butterflies to the top using 9 Black and 8 Dark Pink tiles. I love how cute and springy this design turned out

Spring and Summer Tile Mat Designs | Fireworks

Since this is my spring AND summer design post, I'm adding a super simple 4th of July design to add a patriotic flare. I used 25 Blue, 25 Red tiles and 19 White tiles. I made the white firework a little smaller just to keep it visually interesting. This design really is so simple but is such a cute addition to 4th of July porch decor.

Spring and Summer Tile Mat Designs| Popsicle Sticks

The last is a summer themed one because here in Tennessee summer is approaching fast. I decided to go with a Popsicle design. I've done other Popsicle designs in the past, but this time I'm sticking with one Popsicle in the middle of the mat. This also allowed the Popsicle stick to be a bit thicker, bringing in some of that nostalgic popsicle feel. I used 11 Tan tiles for the popsicle stick and then 19 Teal, 17 Pink, and 18 Yellow tiles for the popsicle stripes. I created the illusion that a bite was taken out of the popsicle and a drip was falling down to make it even more fun. This is definitely one of the easier designs I did and I love how simple and cute it turned out.

Alright that's all of my designs for the season. What do you think, which one is your favorite? I think the floral design is my favorite and is the one that I kept on my porch. I'm excited to expand on the designs in the future and will definitely share when I do.
