DIY Corner Cabinet Drawers

DIY

Today I'm finally doing something I've always wanted to do in our house: adding shelves to the weird corner cabinet in our kitchen. It's kind of a like an "L " shape except there is no actual "L" because there is no corner just a really weird angle. I've been wanting to better utilize this space so I don't have to take everything out in order to reach something. I've looked at different corner cabinet devices you can buy online, but they're like $600 for a basic one, which is insane! Instead, I saw someone I follow who build a corner cabinet exactly like mine with custom drawers and realized that I can probably simulate the same thing with drawers from Amazon. It's an easy addition that makes a really big impact.

The cabinet is jam-packed full of stuff. We don't have a lot of counter space, so most of my big appliances like the air fryer and my stand mixer are kept in here. The first thing I needed to do was take everything out and remove the useless half shelf. The shelf doesn't go the full width of the cabinet and has little holders that keep it up, so getting it out was rather tricky. I used a screwdriver to push in one end then go to the other side of the shelf and do the same thing over there. It was very tricky, so much so that I actually had to crawl all the way into this cabinet. Once I got the shelf out of the cabinet, I was able to put in a new shelf I made out of scrap wood. I used pocket holes to attach it to the sides and made it about the height of one of the stick-on drawers.

Finally, it was time to start putting stuff back into the cabinet which ended up being a little tricky because I had to figure out what could go where based on height. I ended up having to adjust the height of the little shelf that I put the second drawer on so that it could pull out without impacting the first drawer, but other than that, I think it came out really nicely. I love that it makes this a functional cabinet and I can easily get to the things that I need.
