Small Desk Build Plans | Primary Bedroom Refresh

Earlier this week, I talked about Creating the Primary Bedroom Of Your Dreams. When I was painting our bedroom, I decided that I really wanted to change The Husband's desk. I wanted something that better fit the clean lines and aesthetic of the room, so I broke out the saw and the pile of scrap wood I have (this is why I love saving scrap wood!) and went to work.

The desk he was using before was perfectly fine. We bought it in 2014 when we lived in South Carolina for a summer internship while The Husband was in law school. We needed a small desk that fit into our very small apartment and this one worked. We have been using it ever since. There were several problems with it in our bedroom in this house though. First, the desk was too low for his chair to tuck under it. Which meant the chair was often in front of our closet doors and drove me nuts. Second, the desk top was too low for his computer monitors and he was using old text books to prop them up. I knew I could create something that was better for what he needed as a set up and would be tall enough for the chair to fit under.

Materials you will need:
Wood
Wood glue
Wood screws
Brad Nails
Polyurethane top coat

Tools Used:
Drill
Driver
Miter saw
Long clamps
Brad nailer
Orbital sander

Like I said, I used scrap wood for this entire project. I had some nice pieces of wood that weren’t being used that were perfect for the desk top. I secured those together to create the top. I then added the frame and the legs. Last, I added a ledge on the back part of the desk so that The Husband could set his monitors on it. Once everything was done, I wood filled, sanded, and sealed with polyurethane and attached the top of the desk to the legs. I didn’t use a stain for this desk since the raw wood went really well with our new night stands. And that was it. I did secure the desk to the studs in the wall to make sure it didn't go anywhere, but I love it. This desk ends up being 43” w x 23” d x 30” h.

One of my favorite things about DIY is being able to come with with something in the moment that works for the space I have. While I know this desk isn’t going to be for everyone, there are some people who may want the full build plans! You can purchase the plans for this desk build here. It includes a materials list, cut list and full instructions on how to build this desk!
