Jackie’s Play Kitchen Space

For Christmas of last year (2021), we got our daughter an adorable play kitchen from Teamson. I got it for a great deal and it was shipped to us before Thanksgiving, so I had it in plenty of time for Christmas. When we decided that we were going to put it in her room, I knew I wanted it to be more built in. I did this for a few reasons. First, I didn't want it to stick out from the wall. Second, I wanted to have confidence it would be secure and finally, I didn’t want the random stuff kids inevitably have to get stuck behind it.

Jackie’s Play Kitchen | Adding On

First things first, I assembled the kitchen according to the instructions that came with it. I then measured the kitchen and used my multipurpose tool to cut out the baseboard where this was going to go. I placed the kitchen where I had the baseboards already removed and secured it to the wall.

When I first put the kitchen together, I noticed the closures that came with the cabinets weren’t really great. The oven door, in particular, kept opening and it drove my daughter absolutely crazy so I knew I needed to fix that for her. I installed some better magnet closures on the fridge, oven and under the sink.

Next, I wanted her to have more shelves to utilize the space in the kitchen. She has a lot of toys so I knew adding shelving and baskets would give each of them their much-needed place. I cut some shelving from scrap wood I had and added shelves to the fridge, oven and under the sink. I think having the extra space has helped with her imaginative play in this area.

Lastly, I added baskets and her toys. I also hung some magnetic whiteboards so she could hang some of her artwork up as well. As a final touch, I added the little wooden clock she painted during one of her many COVID days at home.

I absolutely love watching her use her imagination while playing in this kitchen. This kitchen made such a great gift and I love how it all turned out, but more importantly my daughter absolutely loves it. Stay tuned for the next blog post where I’ll talk about making the play kitchen table and chairs.
