Mini Tile Mat for Jackie’s Bed

DIY

If you've been around for a little while, you may remember my white tile mat started to fade and change colors due to sun exposure. So far, I've been keeping it at our back door as kind of a catch all for our shoes. Well, today I'm going to do something a little scary. I'm going to cut it in half and do something new with it.

Mini Tile Mat for Jackie’s Bed | Prep

The bottom half of the mat that is discolored and already says "shoes" is going to stay with the shoes. I have something different planned for the top half that's still kind of white. However, I first I needed to split it into two halves. I found the middle which was easy to find since there are eight white squares on each side. I started slicing with my box cutter. The mat is just rubber, so it wasn't that big of a deal. I made sure to go very slow because I wanted to make sure I was cutting as straight as possible. It was a bit wobbly at first, but I got better the more I did it.

It took about a minute and a half to do this start to finish, and then I had two pieces. Like I said, the bottom half is going to remain with our shoes. It's just a nice way to keep our dirty shoes off the floor. The top half I decided to put it in front of my daughter's house bed. My cousin had this idea and I absolutely love it! It’s a cute mini mat we can change for every holiday just like the one at our front door. So now, on to mini mat designs!

Mini Tile Mat for Jackie’s Bed | Mini Hearts

When I first made the mini mat it was actually Valentine's Day so the first design I did was a cute little heart design. There was a little bit of trial and error to get the spacing right, but I fixed it as I went along. I used 19 Glitter Pink, 19 Sugar Plum, and 19 Carnation Pink tiles for the hearts. I like how it turned out. It's very small, sweet and simple.

The next design I did is more of an Easter design since Easter is the next big holiday. I used 15 Carnation Pink, 15 Spring Green, 15 Lilac and 15 Aqua Lagoon tiles to make these little bunny peeps. I just think it looks really cute with her bed and it will look even better once we have her Easter decorations up.

Mini Tile Mat for Jackie’s Bed | Mini Spring Flowers

The last design I did was this little flower design that went all the way across the mat. I just did one line of them. I used 6 Carnation Pink, 6 Sugar Plum, 6 Glitter Blue, 6 Glitter Pink, 6 Lilac, 6 Glacial Blue, and 6 Aqua Lagoon tiles for each of the flowers with 1 Sunflower tile in the  center of each flower. This is actually the design I kept on her bed, and I think it's just really spring-y and fun.

I loved creating new designs in this mini version! It adds another fun layer to her room and she loves it.
