My Go To DIY Tools
My Go To DIY Tools | DIY
I have to say, I was surprised by the number of people who asked for this post! If you have been following along for awhile, you know that I have actually been doing DIY projects for years. I even did a DIY Friday blog post series for awhile! Surprisingly, one of my most popular blog posts was this one on how to reupholster a couch. You can go back and reference some of my older DIY posts here.
Now that we own a home, I have more space and need to do the DIY projects I have wanted to do for years, which is why you have been seeing a lot more projects since we moved!

I have been collecting tools for my DIY projects since before Jackie was born. In the last few months, I have definitely added more tools (the Husband's parents gifted us an amazing tool set for our birthdays/anniversary) in the last few months that have made a huge difference in my projects. So let's talk about the tools that I use the most and I would suggest anyone who is looking to add to their collection should get!
I have rounded up all of my go to tools at the bottom of this post, along with a few others that I have found useful over my last few projects. This year, the Husband's parents gifted us with a power tool set from Dewalt as a birthday/anniversary gift. It had a bunch of cordless power tools in it, two batteries and a charger. I have used some of the tools in this set but not all of them yet. I will talk about some of them in more detail below.

The first big tool that I bought was a miter saw. I only used it a few times before Jackie was born and then it sat in my parents' garage for awhile. I have to say, it was definitely the best first purchase. A miter saw can cut wood boards and are great for smaller projects. I have used it with EVERY project I have done. If you are intimated by saws (miter, circular saws or table saws), I would suggest getting a miter saw first. It is very easy to use and like I said, you will use it all the time!
In the set of tools that the Husband's parents got us, there was a cordless drill. This has been my favorite tool out of that set, by far. Admittedly, I haven't used all of the tools from that set yet, so I may have to come back and correct that statement! But a cordless drill gives you a lot of flexibility and the battery on these Dewalt tools is great!
When you are doing a DIY project, the likelihood of you needing to sand a part of it is pretty high. Which is why I picked up an orbital sander earlier this year and I use it on every project.
Also in that Dewalt set were a cordless mini shop vac and a cordless circular saw. I have been using them both a lot and would highly recommend them both. If you aren't ready to take the jump to get a table saw (I want one but have no where to put it), a circular saw is a great alternative, especially when you combine it with the Rip Cut I will talk more about below.
My Go To DIY Tools | Other Tools
Let's talk non power tools now. There are several tools that I use on pretty much every project that I couldn't do without. They may seem small but they are definitely a game changer!
First there are the two Kreg tools. The Kreg jig is how I make pocket holes! This comes in a variety of versions, but I have linked the one I have below. I use a clamp to hold the Kreg jig to the board I am working on and it has worked really well so far! I also recently bought the Kreg Rip Cut, which I mentioned above. This is essential when using a circular saw, and is definitely worth the $40!
You are probably wondering why I have a drop cloth as one of my go to tools. I honestly have used it on EVERY SINGLE project I have done so far. I have two different sizes and I use them both. I would strongly suggest getting a cloth drop cloth over a plastic one or a tarp so your projects don't stick to the drop cloth!
