DIY Front Porch Reveal | The Furniture

It's finally here! I am sharing my DIY Front Porch Reveal today. I have always wanted a porch swing, but living in apartments, that wasn't going to happen. So when we bought this house, I knew that a porch swing was going to be perfect for our front porch. But buying a porch swing is expensive. So for less than the cost of buying a pre made swing, I was able to build a swing, a chair, make cushion covers, buy a rug and decor! And when I say less than a buying a porch swing, I mean I spent about $300 total on this entire porch!

I built the swing using Elise's plans from Hunters of Happiness. It is designed for the bottom cushion to be a crib mattress! We used the crib mattress from my parent's house and it fits perfectly! The only thing I changed from Elise's plans was I did slats on the sides of the swings instead of x's. The slats are more cohesive with the rest of our outdoor furniture so thats why I did that! We were a little nervous about hanging the swing. As you can see in the pictures, our next door neighbor has a porch swing so we talked to them about how they hung theirs, which was really helpful! My dad came to help The Husband and I hang it. We used a stud to screw in the eye screws and it's held up great! We hung the swing low so that Jackie had easy access to it, which has been a huge hit. It may look like the swing isn't level in the pictures. It is, the porch isn't!

The chair you may remember from a few months ago. I built a bunch of chairs at the same time and messed this one up so bad that I had to start over! Thankfully it worked out and it's been a great addition to the porch.

DIY Front Porch Reveal | Fabric

I did buy the fabric for all of the cushions and made the covers. I wanted something specific and when I found this buffalo check fabric from Hobby Lobby when we were in Montana, I knew it was perfect! The cream tweed fabric I used for the other cushions and the crib mattress is nice and thick so it isn't see through. It also has a few different shades of cream in it so it hides spills and stains really well! This one is really similar to the one I used.

DIY Front Porch Reveal | Decor

Obviously, the porch is currently decorated for Fall. But having black, white/cream as our base will make decorating the rest of the year really easy. I am excited about the buffalo check at Christmas!
