Jackie’s Bathroom
I decided to take Jackie’s builder basic bathroom and step it up a notch. It needed to be more functional and frankly, prettier. I knew we needed more space for hanging stuff (that was not on the back of the door) and I really wanted it to get her input so her bathroom reflected her style. It’s amazing what a change in hardware, some paint, and a little bit of shiplap can do to transform a space!
Jackie’s Bathroom | Shiplap and Paint
First off, I started with cutting some shiplap and wood. I decided to hang shiplap vertically in the bathroom like I did in our laundry room. This was really easy since I already had thick baseboard here so I didn't have to do anything at the bottom. I took the plate off of the light switches so I could measure where I needed to cut the shiplap in order to install it correctly.
In the process I realized I needed to add an outlet box extender. The shiplap bumped everything out a little bit so the outlet would be recessed if I didn’t extend it. After extending the outlet, I used my nail gun to install the shiplap. I added a 1x6 across the top of the shiplap and a 1x2 on top of that. I then filled the nail holes, gave it all a good sanding, primed and got ready for painting.
I stuck with a white for the shiplap because I wanted it to contrast the rest of the bathroom. I also hung these really cute gold hooks I found on Etsy. I painted the walls the color Valentine Memories by Benjamin Moore. It's the same color I used when I painted her bookshelves, so it tied her bathroom and bedroom together.
Jackie’s Bathroom | Finishing Touches
We added a custom painted stool to match the pink in her bathroom. I did give her some options of which colors she wanted to do and kind of hoping she'd do a variety, but she stuck with one color - pink. It ended up being really cute and added a handmade touch to her bathroom.
I then changed out the faucet to a gold one. I've done this in my house like three or four times now, and I've finally got the hang of it so it only takes me around 5-10 minutes. However, its definitely harder to do pregnant because getting under the sink was a much more difficult task. I also changed out her hardware on her vanity, added a gold toilet paper holder and a gold towel ring.
I added baskets to her bathtub and just used waterproof command hooks to hang them up. I love having these baskets because all of her wet toys can just go in there after the bath and drip dry. The very last thing I did was install this shampoo/conditioner/soap dispensers into her bathtub as well. This works for us because we now don’t have a ton of different bottles were dealing with so it keeps the bathtub neat and tidy.
I absolutely love how this bathroom turned out and more importantly Jackie loves it. It’s now so much more reflective of her personality. I have plans to eventually add a frame to the mirror so stay tuned for that! You can shop everything I used for this project below.
