How to Repurpose Old Spring Decorations

DIY

I love being able to repurpose things, it fuels my creativity and I get to feel good about not buying new things. So, if you have any spring or Easter decor you're not currently using, but you need an idea of what to do with it, I have a couple of ideas for you!

How to Repurpose Old Spring Decorations | Bunny Garland

My mom had a bunch of bunny ears for the girls in our family who have all gotten too old to wear bunny ears. She wanted me to come up with a way to use the bunny ears, but still be able to undo it later and use them as ears for another time. I used dowel rods and some ribbon and wrapped the ribbon around the dowel rod and the bunny ears to flatten them out. This project is SO easy. I didn't buy anything, I'm not sewing anything, and I'm not gluing anything for this.

I used ribbon that worked with the fabric of the bunny ears, but you could use something that's just super Easter themed instead.  I wrapped it all the way around until I got to the end of the dowel and then I kind of tied it and tucked it in so that it was secure. Again, no gluing, no tape, no sewing, nothing. I then took two ribbons and some tulle, and used them to tie the ears to the railing. After standing back to look, I decided that they were too close together and didn't cover enough of the railing. After I spread them out a little bit I started to work on the bows to bulk up the space in-between the bunny ears.

I had a really good family friend who taught me how to make bows a really long time ago, and I cannot thank her enough because I use this skill all the time. First you're going to take the end of the ribbon and make a loop. Once you've made that loop, you're going to twist the ribbon that's at the end of the loop and make another loop. You will continue doing that over and over and over again until you've run out of ribbon. You want to do this so the loops are on two sides and it's kind of flat. Once you're done, you're going to take a smaller piece of ribbon and tie it around the center. If it's going to be your only piece of ribbon, you want to double knot it, but if you are going to add more ribbon to this, you will only tie it once. Once it's tied, you can then pull the loops apart and start fluffing and puffing out the bow some. The finished effect looks quite a bit like the big bows that are often on presents at Christmas.

I made three of these bows to go in-between all of the bunny ears. I attached the bows using the tulle I had used in the ties for the ears and then it was done! So now my mom has this very cute, very one of a kind garland that she can still use the bunny ears from later if she wants to.

How to Repurpose Old Spring Decorations | Egg Wreath

I don't know about you, but I have a lot of leftover eggs I don't need. I hate that they just sit there unused so I knew I wanted to do something with them. I decided to make a wreath out of them. I took some tulle and a wire wreath and looped the tulle around it to make a little hanging hook. Then I wrapped the rest of the tulle around the wreath so when I put the eggs on it the wire wouldn't show through.

Then I plugged in my hot glue gun and I glued the eggs to the tulle. Another benefit of the tulle is that it gives something for the eggs to adhere to. I didn't have enough big eggs to make a whole wreath. I did two big eggs and then a small egg and I alternated the colors and mixed things around until they worked exactly how I wanted them to.

I really like how it turned out! It's really cute and I feel like this is way better than just having a bunch of random eggs laying around.

These repurposing crafts were so fun to do! I encourage you to find some decor in your house you can use to make something fun and new too. You can shop similar supplies to the ones I used below. Happy crafting!
