Duvet Hacks Everyone Needs
Duvet Hacks Everyone Needs | Double Duvet System
I have found that my husband and I each having our own duvet works SO much better for us as opposed to sharing a duvet because we have different preferences when we sleep. I have a duvet that is a medium weight and my duvet cover is textured. My husband has a duvet cover that's plain white, without any texture on it. We fill his cover with two lightweight duvets and that gives him a little bit more weight to his duvet, which I don't like, but he does. If you also use two duvets inside of the duvet cover, make sure all of the loops on your duvets line up all the way around both duvets. This will ensure everything's lined up when you're tying everything together. We love having two blankets because it ensures we have the right weight of blanket and nobody's hogging blankets which makes for a much more restful night’s sleep.
Duvet Hacks Everyone Needs | Adding Duvet Cover Loops
A good duvet is going to have loops on the corners and strings on the corners for you to attach the cover to the duvet. I have also discovered that if you have eight of these loops all the way around your duvet, your duvet is going to actually stay in place. Unfortunately, sometimes duvets don't have them so let's talk about how to add them.
First up, you need a sewing kit. All you really need is a simple one you can get at your local grocery store. You don't need a sewing this machine. As far as other supplies go, all you're really going need is some ribbon. For each loop, you will need roughly two inches of ribbon. Start sewing the loop to the duvet, NOT the duvet cover. You're going to sew loops on all four corners, and then on the sides evenly between the corners. All you have to do for the loops is a few stitches, tie it off, and give it a nice pull to make sure it's not going anywhere.
Now, to add the ties to the duvet covers you're going to need about 10 inches of ribbon. After marking where the loops on your duvet are, you will sew the ribbon on to the duvet covers making sure everything lays flat where you're attaching the loops. When it's all put inside the duvet cover, you're going to fold the ribbon in half and sew along the fold. Again, just a few stitches, knot it off, give it a tug and you're done. Now you can easily tie that ribbon to the loops on the duvets.

The easiest way I have found to get a duvet inside its cover is to have the duvet cover inside out. Once its inside out, lay it flat on the bed and place the duvet on top of it and tie all of the ties from the cover to the loops on the duvet. Next, grab the corners of the duvet cover on the inside so they are now on the right side of the duvet cover and flip everything. After the duvet and cover are attached, I normally shake it out so everything lays flat.
Now, to making our bed. Like I mentioned, my husband and I each have a duvet we sleep with. My duvet cover is textured and my husband's is not. They're both white, but the textured duvet gives some detail to our bedding, which I like. I first put my duvet on the bed upside down, so the texture is facing the sheet, and put my husband's duvet on top of mine. I fold the top down so there's a roll and the texture from my duvet cover can be seen at the head of the bed. I love how crisp and clean everything looks when its put together, but when it comes time to sleep we can easily grab our respective duvets. I hope these tips help you when choosing a duvet (or two) for your bed.
