DIY Faux Potted Plants

DIY

Let's talk faux potted plants and making your own faux potted plants. I don't know about you, but I have killed so many real plants. My husband has actually asked me to stop buying them for the sake of the environment and literally everyone else. I got these really cute pots on clearance, and some potted plants to have some green outside that I won't have to worry about keeping alive!

The first thing you want to keep in mind when choosing faux plants is finding plants that are going to be weather resistant, so most likely something that has more of a rubber texture to it. After deciding which plants to use, I got to work on the pots. To start, I drilled a hole through each of these concrete pots using making sure to use a special concrete drill bit. After that, I hot glued foam to the bottom of each pot and then started gluing in the stems of the plants.

Once they were secure, I added a little bit of dirt just to give it more of a realistic vibe. I have done this process a number of times, both for inside and outside faux potted plants. I've tried moss on the top of the plants before, but the moss just does not stay as well so I stick to the dirt. After covering the tops of the plants, I fluffed it a little bit and I was done!

Another way I've done this in the past is to take the foam off of a faux potted plant and put it in a much bigger planter that fit its size better, and then added dirt to the top of that as well.

These turned out really pretty and inexpensive, they were less than $20 each to make, including the pot. Honestly, at this point ALL of my plants are fake plants. So, if you're like me and have a really hard time keeping real plants alive this might be the best scenario for you too!
