Valentine’s Day Tile Mat Ideas

DIY

It's been a little while since I did any tile mat designs since we've been in Argentina and I couldn't take it with me. Now that we're back and settled, I figured it was time to unleash my creativity again and churn out a whole new set of holiday-themed designs. Before we left for Argentina, I was leaning heavily into floral designs that covered the whole mat. I brought that back for Valentine's Day with hearts with a design covering most of the mat as well as a few more simplistic designs.

One of the questions I get asked the most about this tile mat is if it can be used inside as a kitchen or bath mat as well as an outdoor mat. The good news is since it is rubber it can pretty much be used wherever you want!

Before I got started, I made sure to give the mat a good cleaning. One of the things I love about this mat is that it's rubber and can be cleaned really easily with some Dawn Powerwash and a little scrubbing. I bought my first white tile mat in fall of 2020 when we moved into this house and it had a fair amount of sun damage. I bought the new black one in February of 2022 and it seems to be holding up MUCH better. If you're deciding between the two, my suggestion would be to go with the black one.

Valentines Day Tile Mat Ideas | XOXO

The first design is a simple XOXO with a little heart in the corner. I used 30 Fog tiles for the XOXO and 13 Cinnamon tiles for the heart. I like how simple this one is because I know not everybody likes to have something that is super in your face for holidays. Hopefully this one will resonate with you if you like a more simplistic design.

Valentines Day Tile Mat Ideas | Simple Hearts

The next design is for a non-traditional person who doesn't necessarily want to do the typical red and pink color scheme. I used 13 Sugar Plum tiles for the pink heart in the middle and then 13 Tropical Teal tiles for each of the teal hearts, and 13 Daffodil tile for each of the yellow hearts. While this design is still pretty simple, it does require a little bit more time than the last one. I really like how it looks, especially on the front porch. It's just a very pretty and minimalistic design.

Valentines Day Tile Mat Ideas | All Over Hearts

I started doing flower designs that cover the entire mat last year and I absolutely love how that looks. I wanted to do that with hearts this year. I will say, I haven't quite mastered how to cover the entire mat in hearts and I do have to account for some gaps between the hearts, which is not something that I had to worry about with the flower designs. Hearts just aren't as nicely lined up on the mat as the flowers are. For this design, I decided to go with nine different colors. Each full heart takes 13 tiles and I used 61 Fog tiles for the white accents. Overall, I used 52 Glitter Pink, 52 Carnation Pink, 52 Cinnamon, 38 Holly Berry, 52 Glitter Gold, 52 Wild Plum, 38 Lilac tiles and 38 Sugar Plum for the hearts. I was able to get two of almost every color going height wise down the mat. At the very bottom, the third color didn't fit all the way, so I only got part of that. I offset the hearts a little bit in each column, just so they would line up a little bit better. This design was definitely the most complicated and took the most time out of all of the designs, but it was also my favorite! I was really happy with how it turned out.

I have so much fun with designing these so stay tuned for more tile mat content as the holidays come up!
