Toddler-Friendly Christmas Decor

Now that Thanksgiving is over, we are all excited and have had a good time decorating for Christmas! I want to share with you some of the toddler-friendly Christmas decorations I've collected over the years as I have made an effort to cater my Christmas decorations around my kids instead of the other way around. My daughter didn't bother decorations so regular Christmas decor out wasn't a big deal. My son, on the other hand, wants to get into absolutely everything so I've had to shift my decor style to accommodate that.

Toddler-Friendly Christmas Decor | Personalized Kids Trees

I like to have a tree in both of my kids' rooms because it gets them more familiar with a tree and they get to have something personalized in their rooms. All of our trees are artificial so they remain relatively consistent each year. I generally use non-breakable ornaments and any that are delicate or special stay away from the kid's trees. For my kids' trees, I like to use plush and small animal ornaments they can play and have fun with. I have been collecting the Jellycat ornaments over the last few years and they are perfect for a toddler Christmas tree because they're cute, soft, and can double as Christmas toys to be played with.

We love the lights and ornaments on my son's tree, however I am kind of regretting the garland I chose to go on it. I was shopping with him and we found a bell garland he loved and I based the color scheme of the entire tree around it. Unfortunately, he has loved it so much that it has been taken off, played with and become well-loved, so much so the bells are coming off. I now know for the future no garlands for his tree.

My daughter's room has a very similar setup to what I've done in the past. This year I got her a skinny pink six foot tree for her room. It is around 3 feet wide so it fit nicely right in front of her house bed. I added pink lights and her ornaments. All of her ornaments are unbreakable and some are crafts we have done.

Toddler-Friendly Christmas Decor | Christmas Plushies

I also put a garland on our railing and hang our stockings on it. I replaced our old garland with one that doesn't shed and spruced it up with things my son doesn't really care about messing with. I also like decorating with Christmas stuffed animals and pillows. I add these plushies to our stairs, our couch, and in the kids’ rooms. I find this is a really easy way to decorate and my kids can enjoy them without me worrying about something breaking.

Toddler-Friendly Christmas Decor | Main Christmas Tree

For the main tree downstairs, I went pretty basic with the decorations so my toddler wasn't tempted to mess with it. I focused on having unbreakable stuff on the bottom and towards the front of the tree. Ornaments that are more fragile I have up high or tuck back into the tree. After sticking his arm in the tree once, he is not interested in getting caught branches again. I want his Christmas memories to be good instead of memories of being told to not touch things so I try to facilitate that as much as possible.

Hopefully these are a few ideas that can help you create a more toddler-friendly Christmas this year. I'm always adjusting my decor depending on what stage my kids are in so I'm sure this will change in the future. I'm always excited to see what we change from year to year.
