How I am Staying Organized While Living in Corporate Housing
If you're new here, Hi, I'm Emily! I have ADHD and in order to keep me and my family functioning, I have found ways of organizing and creating systems I don't always use, but I can put stuff back into when I need to. Right now, my family is living in Buenos Aires, Argentina in corporate housing. I'm going to show you a few ways we are staying organized in our corporate housing for the next six months.
How I am Staying Organized While Living in Corporate Housing | Hanging Spaces and Designated Places
First, at our front entry right outside our door we have command hooks we've put up that allow us to hang stuff right at the door. We've also made use of the hanging coat rack that came with the apartment, and we each have our own separate hooks. This way we each know where our coats always are and where they should always go.
I have a shelf in the kitchen I have dedicated to all of our homeschooling stuff. There's another shelf in the kitchen I've dedicated to any of my filming and camera equipment. Having these things, that we use often, in an easily accessible place it really helpful.
In a previous blog post, I talked about the set of drawers we painted. These are what I'm keeping the kids toys in and I have a different category of toys in each drawer. It's really, really helped keep us from having giant messes all the time.
How I am Staying Organized While Living in Corporate Housing | Closets
My kids are sharing a room and a closet, which is new territory for us. My daughter has the top drawer in their closet and then my son has the two bottom drawers because most of his stuff gets folded and most of hers is hung up. The bottom shelf is hers as well and her toys along with his diapers are stored on the middle shelf. I added suitcases in every possible place I humanly can because otherwise we'd have suitcases everywhere.
My daughter loves to make artwork and draw, so we got this folder at a local office supply store. Every time she creates something, if she doesn't hang it up to decorate her room, I put it in this folder. This way I'm not throwing it away right away and she knows where to find it. Will I keep all of this? Absolutely not. But for now it is all in a folder and I don't have to worry about it.
My husband and I are also sharing a closet. It is much, much smaller than the closet we have at home. I've split stuff up where he has the bottom shelf and I have the next shelf. The third shelf has both of our pants. Top shelf has swimsuits, sweaters, scarves and other large accessories. I'm trying to keep all of my jewelry in the two jewelry boxes I brought from Kendra Scott. They're really nice for traveling and keep my jewelry organized.
Then the drawers my husband has the top drawer and I have the two bottom drawers because, like my daughter, most of his stuff is hung up. Then on the other side we each have a rod for hanging our clothes up and I have put as many suitcases into this closet as I possibly could as well. I've done similar things in the bathrooms, have utilized a lot of bags, folders, boxes, and any other things I can move around really easily. The key to this organization is keeping things where they go while still having access to the important things.
