How We Made Our Corporate Housing Feel More Like Home

We are officially in Buenos Aires, Argentina and are living in corporate housing. This is arranged through my husband's company. They work with a rental company here in Buenos Aires and it's a very lovely apartment. We have an amazing view, and the apartment comes with a couch, table and chairs, beds, tv and tv table, the basics we need. Regardless, it just still isn't home. I've done a few things to make it feel more homey since we are going to be here for six months and figured I would share them with you.

How We Made Our Corporate Housing Feel More Like Home | Blankets and Play Spaces

One of the things I tried really hard to do, and made sure we had space for when packing, was to bring the kids’ blankets. I knew this was going to be really important for making them feel like we were at home.

I also created little spaces for the kids throughout the apartment that are truly play spaces, especially the play area in the main living space by the tv. This is really where we keep the majority of the kids toys that aren't in their shared bedroom. We brought toys and have also been gradually getting things here in Buenos Aires we're adding to this space as well.

This area is where we are keeping the magnetic tiles and ball run. I can't speak highly enough about these toys. They are awesome for every age and gender and are great for open-ended play. We've also loved this road tape around the play area from Magic Playbook. They have a few different designs including the pink brick, cityscape and ocean and we love them all. They come off super easily without leaving any residue which makes them ideal in a temporary space. You can also put them on walls, which I've done over in a corner of the room where my daughter can do a lot of her imaginative play.

We also got a play mat that my son loves. It's one we purchased here and is based off the show La Granja de Zenón which is an Argentinian nursery rhyme show my kids have been watching since my oldest was born. I just used loops of masking tape to tape it down to the floor, and even though baby does try and peel it off sometimes, it's working well.

How We Made Our Corporate Housing Feel More Like Home | Organization and Wall Decor

To make things feel more put together and organized, we bought a set of drawers from a local hardware store. Even though they didn't come with the apartment, I decided it was going to be so much better than trying to figure out places to put all of our stuff and feel super disorganized. They are just MDF drawers a local person built and the plan is to paint them with my daughter so they are a little bit more custom. Then we can donate them to someone we meet here when we leave.

I've put a lot of things on the walls using masking tape. They are nothing super special, but since I'm homeschooling my daughter while we are here, I wanted to be able to add a lot of learning elements to the wall with just masking tape. It's really helped to make the big blank walls feel more homey.

For the kids’ room, we have my daughters bed tent, as well as the crib that was provided for my son. We added command hooks around the room and we've allowed our daughter to decorate. She's been doing drawings and hanging everything on the walls with masking tape.

I've added command hooks in our room too and pretty much everywhere else I can. There is not a lot of storage in this apartment, so putting up command hooks has been super helpful, but I also feel like the it makes the rooms feel more homey.

The very last thing I did to make it feel like home here was bringing our own pillows. The ones we have are memory foam pillows so they were super easy to pack in vacuum sealed bags. We knew we would feel like we were living in a hotel this whole month if we didn't have our own pillows to sleep on and I definitely recommend this.

We are easing to our Argentinian home more and more and are excited to see what the next couple of months bring!
