Jackie's Room: Now Vs Then | The Old Apartment

The old apartment was a one bedroom with a den. We made Jackie's room the den. There were some great advantages to this, like she slept in complete darkness and slept fairly late every morning. There were some terrible disadvantages to this too, like her doors were slatted so she could hear us and see any lights that were on. When she was tiny, this was not as big of a deal but as she has gotten older, she has become more aware of her surroundings and would wake up if we made too much noise. You can see how we set up her room here:

Jackie's Room: Now Vs Then | The New Apartment

One of the reasons we chose this new apartment was because Jackie would have her own room with a solid door. We can be in the family room and the kitchen without worrying about waking her up after she has gone to bed. Jackie's room in MUCH bigger in comparison to her old room and she even has her own bathroom and closet.

I swapped the book shelves that were in the office space of the old apartment and put them in Jackie's room instead. This worked better because I could utilize the baskets for storage space. We got rid of her changing table because at this point it was a glorified dresser and it only had two drawers. I felt like we could better utilize the bookshelves with the baskets in them than the changing table. All of the baskets on the two rows of bottom shelves store toys because Jackie can get into them.

The one hiccup we encountered in Jackie's new room was the window. Like I mentioned, she didn't have any windows in her last room so she slept in the dark. I was worried that she wouldn't sleep as long in the mornings if we didn't hang curtains. Since the window is floor to ceiling, there is not a good place to hang a curtain rod. I had to jerry rig a curtain rod to work for her room. And it only worked for a few weeks and one day, Jackie was playing in her curtains and pulled the rod down. Now I am trying to figure out a new solution.
