How To Create a Toddler Friendly Fall Centerpiece
How To Create a Toddler Friendly Fall Centerpiece | Decorating With A Toddler
I have been collection different fall and halloween decorations since The Husband and I got married. Most of them have been glittery. But this year, I wanted to do something different. I didn't want to do too many decorations so it was all going to be on our kitchen island. That meant that Jackie would have full access to it, so I had to find items that would stand up to the wear and tear of a very curious two year old. A two year old who is known for throwing things and dropping them from high places just to see how they will bounce. So glitter and anything easily breakable was out.
I love how this centerpiece turned out. I did rush to get it done so I could take pictures and show it to you. That way you can make one yourself for the fall season. But I may be added more small pumpkins here or there to it throughout the next few months. It will be up through Thanksgiving for sure so I want to love it until November!
How To Create a Toddler Friendly Fall Centerpiece | The Pumpkins
As I have gotten older, I have discovered I don't like a lot of color in my home decor. I prefer neutrals that blend right into my home and I can leave up for an entire season. So when I was looking for pumpkins for this centerpiece, I was looking for cream and very light colors. The little pumpkins are from the dollar spot at Target, and I love them! They come in packs of 4 and there are several different color combinations.
I have found several pumpkins over the years that are either wood or plastic that are perfect for Jackie to carry around. This year, I found a few more, including this woven one, which I love. It comes in 3 sizes and is definitely affordable. Many of these are from HomeGoods so I can't link them for you but I found a lot of similar ones at the bottom of this post. I probably should have looked to link pumpkins before I started working on this post because I found a lot of really cute ones on Etsy, like these crocheted ones.
How To Create a Toddler Friendly Fall Centerpiece | The Garland
The garland was the hardest part of this project. I wanted something that was cute and would tie the entire centerpiece together but I also wanted something that Jackie could play with or carry around with her. I looked at Target and even did a poll in my Instagram stories to see which ones would be a good fit. Once I went to Target and saw the garlands in person, I knew none of them would work. I could just imagine Jackie carrying them around her neck, singing (which she does). And I didn't want pieces of garland strewn all over the place.
Enter this adorable felt woodland creatures garland I found at HomeGoods. It was the only one, tucked in with the rest of the Fall and Halloween decor. I did find a lot of similar ones from Etsy that I linked below. When I brought it out of the packaging, Jackie was instantly drawn to it. She loves animals and likes to talk about the sounds they make. So this garland was perfect for us.
