How I Updated My Kitchen Light Fixtures
We really didn't like builder grade lights that came with our house. I had never done electrical work before this, but I decided that I wanted to change them out and there is a first time for everything. So, let me show you what I did!
How I Updated My Kitchen Light Fixtures | Pendant Lights
I started with updating the pendant lights over the bar. First, and most importantly, I turned off the power. I removed the old lights and then started installing the new lights. Like I said before, this was the first time I had done electrical work like this, and honestly, it was a lot easier than I was expecting! It all come down to twisting same color wires together, and then securely connecting them using the provided wire connectors.
These pendant lights came with a really long cord I needed to adjust, so the hardest part was trying to get that cord wrapped up and inside the plate. Everything else was just putting in screws and mounting the lights. Then, I turned the power back on to test the light and it worked. My first electrical project was a success!
How I Updated My Kitchen Light Fixtures | Chandelier
Next up was the chandelier. I decided to change things up with a rectangular chandelier I feel really matched our space better than the original one. One thing I learned from the pendant light was to set everything up before I mounted it onto the ceiling. Then I was able to simply, like the pendant lights, twist the right colored wires together, and then secure them with the wire connectors. Once that was done, I was able to mount the whole thing to the ceiling, turn the power back on and test the lights, step back and enjoy the new chandelier!
The new lights totally changed the look of the room. I love that they bring in the gold (which is much more my style) and I'm so proud that I installed them on my own. It has given me so much confidence to tackle DIY projects I'm unfamiliar with. Hopefully this gives you confidence to tackle projects on your own too!
