Ferry Boat Trip Social Story

When we went to Uruguay in August, we took a ferry from Buenos Aires to Colonia de Sacramento, Uruguay. Since my seven year old autistic daughter has been on dozens of planes to this point, I thought she would be fine with the process of getting on/off a boat and boat travel. Unfortunately, I was wrong. Because of this experience and how difficult it was for her, I decided to create a social story about taking a ferry boat and what that entails.

Ferry Boat Trip Social Story | The Whole Process

I included all of the steps necessary including: checking in, checking bags, security, going through immigration/passport control, getting on the boat, traveling on the boat, getting off the boat, picking up baggage and all of the waiting in between.

While I focused this social story on international ferry boat travel, the pages about passport control and immigration can easily be taken out and wouldn't impact the flow of the rest of the social story.

I made this like the last social story book that I made. Since I don't have my laminator I used a folder I found at our local store with 10 pages in it that I can insert stuff into. Then I taped the cover to the front. Since I actually needed two extra pages, I taped those to the inside cover on the front and the back.

You can go back and look at all of the different ways I've done social stories in the past to get more inspiration. Like all of my social stories, it is inclusive and neuro-affirming, meaning it is from the perspective of the person who's reading the book and how they're going to experience it instead of how their behavior will impact others like other social stories that you might find. You can find any of my other social stories in the shop.
