Favorite Christmas Traditions | St Nicholas Day

I know that the holidays are over but I wanted to share one of my favorite Christmas traditions with you so maybe you can add it to yours next year! My maternal grandfather is an immigrant from Berlin and my paternal grandfather was raised by his German stepmother. So there is a lot of German influence in our Christmas traditions. One of my favorites is St Nicholas day. Celebrated on December 6, St Nicholas brings candy & fruit to those who have been good and coal and sticks to those who have been bad. It is very similar to Christmas but you put your shoes outside your door on December 5 so St Nicholas can fill them. Of course over the years, fruit and candy has turned into much more than that!

I was so excited to start celebrating this holiday with Jackie this year. I know she really doesn't understand a lot of what is going on but I love seeing the joy on her face when we do something new! When I was little, we always got a new Christmas ornament on St Nicholas day from something we did that year. It was perfect because there was still time to put it on the tree that year. So I carried on that tradition this year. The Husband got a ninja turtle because they are his favorite. I got Belle because I was in labor when we saw the new Beauty & the Beast movie (I thought that was incredibly appropriate). Jackie got her Baby's First Christmas Ornament. I loved adding these to our collection of ornaments!
