DIY Friday: Metal Shelf Redo

Paris had a metal shelf she kept on her deck with plants on it. Living in Virginia, we have pretty much every kind of weather (which I love). So the shelf was pretty rusty. It looked terrible. So we decided to strip it and turn it into something that Paris would want in her house.Supplies:

  1. Steel wool
  2. Latex gloves- this is always a better idea
  3. Spray paint- color of your choice
  4. Well ventilated space

Steps:

  1. Using the steel wool, we scrubbed this shelf for several hours. It was covered in rust, which isn't something you want when you are bringing a piece inside and/or painting it. The steel wool did the trick, but it took awhile. We did this over the course of about a week. We wore latex gloves the entire time because when the rust comes off it is a burn orange. It can get all over your hands and is gross.DIY Friday: Metal Shelves Redo | Breezing ThroughDIY Friday: Metal Shelves Redo | Breezing ThroughDIY Friday: Metal Shelves Redo | Breezing ThroughDIY Friday: Metal Shelves Redo | Breezing ThroughDIY Friday: Metal Shelves Redo | Breezing Through
  2. We then put the shelf on some old sheets and spray painted it. Lesson learned here, buy more paint than you think you are going to need. I went through one bottle really fast. So we had to go back  to the store to get more! Also the paint is going to get everywhere, no matter how hard you try for it not to.

Over all, Paris loves how it turned out. It's now sitting in one of the windows in her dinning room, covered in pots and plants.
