DIY Friday: Bed Frame into Bench

DIY Friday: Bed Frame into Bench | Breezing Through

The more pieces of furniture I redo, the more adventurous I get. I found this bed frame sitting out in front of a neighbors house on trash day. So I went and grabbed it. I know, its kind of weird. But I couldn't resist. Everyone has seen those bedframe into bench tutorials on Pinterest and I was in desperate need of more seating for our kitchen table.DIY Friday: Bed Frame into Bench | Breezing Through

Supplies:
Steps
  1. I had to do some touch ups to the bed frame. There were some broken pieces so I used wood filler to fix those pieces.
  2. I measured the length of the bed frame and how wide I wanted it to be. I then bought the wood to be those lengths.DIY Friday: Bed Frame into Bench | Breezing Through
  3. I then screwed one of the pieces of wood onto the back of the bed frame. This was the base of the bench. I used the wood screws to do this so it would be a lot sturdier.DIY Friday: Bed Frame into Bench | Breezing Through
  4. I used the Krek Jig to make the necessary holes in the side pieces. This was safer then just drilling the pieces together.DIY Friday: Bed Frame into Bench | Breezing ThroughDIY Friday: Bed Frame into Bench | Breezing ThroughDIY Friday: Bed Frame into Bench | Breezing ThroughDIY Friday: Bed Frame into Bench | Breezing Through
  5. I cut the other end of the bed frame so I could use the posts for the edges of the front of the bench. You can see in this picture that I orginally left the feet on all four posts. The bench was too tall so I ended up cutting all four of the feet off.DIY Friday: Bed Frame into Bench | Breezing Through
  6. For the seat, I used a piece of extra wood we had in the garage. I cut that into three pieces that would fit evenly on the bencgI had to cut notches into the two end pieces so that they would be flush against the back of the bench.DIY Friday: Bed Frame into Bench | Breezing Through
  7. I had several pieces of foam that I had originally intended for the couch but they were not comfy enough. Using an electric knife, I cut the foam so it was the right size to have three across the seat. An electric knife is the best way to cut foam! I cut notches into the two end pieces so they would be the same as the piece of wood I was going upholster them to.DIY Friday: Bed Frame into Bench | Breezing ThroughDIY Friday: Bed Frame into Bench | Breezing ThroughDIY Friday: Bed Frame into Bench | Breezing Through
  8. I used the fabric to upholster the foam to the wood. I used my trusty upholstery staple gun to get the job done.DIY Friday: Bed Frame into Bench | Breezing ThroughDIY Friday: Bed Frame into Bench | Breezing ThroughDIY Friday: Bed Frame into Bench | Breezing ThroughDIY Friday: Bed Frame into Bench | Breezing ThroughDIY Friday: Bed Frame into Bench | Breezing Through
  9. I then used a small piece of wood to secure the three pieces of wood together.DIY Friday: Bed Frame into Bench | Breezing Through
  10. After a month of using the bench, I decided the seat needed hinges. I use the space underneath for storage so it only made sense!
  11. I added cushions to the back to make it more comfortable!DIY Friday: Bed Frame into Bench | Breezing Through

I love this bench, it has so much character! It is incredible heavy so I have to commit to where I put it!Breezing Through Blog
