2019 Gift Guide for Parents & In Laws | Gifting to Parents & In Laws

Parents and in laws can be hard to shop for. Often they tell you that they don't want anything and/or they don't really NEED anything. I did have a few requests for this post and I was planning on doing this one anyway so that worked out. I did find a number of items that would be good gifts for both parents and in laws. Most of the items I am sharing with you we own, we have gifted or I know someone who owns it and loves it. Like all of the other gift guides I have done, I don't want to just suggest items that I have never tried before. I want you to know that the person you are gifting to will love what you are giving them. Also, I have given you a large range when it comes to pricing but most of the items are less than $150. I have linked the items based on their categories but everything is also linked at the bottom of the post for you to shop!

2019 Gift Guide for Parents & In Laws | Kitchen Gadgets

Kitchen gadgets are fun for gifting to parents & in laws. There are so many fun gadgets out there that most people don't know about that would make great gifts. I did a post last year about my favorite kitchen gadgets where I talked about the Instant pot and the Vidalia Chopper, both of which would make great gifts. Most people can replace 2-3 kitchen gadgets with just one Instant Post because it does SO MUCH. And it ALWAYS goes on sale during Black Friday. I will be sure to keep an eye out for that and share the deals with you. The Vidalia vegetable chopper has become my personal favorite kitchen gadget. It makes chopping veggies so much easier and faster. I like to get lots of veggies, cut them all up at once and then freezing what I am not going to be using just then.

A few years ago, I gifted a Keurig single serve coffee maker to my dad. Anyone that knows my family would find that surprising because we don't drink coffee. But we do drink hot chocolate and we do drink tea. And it has been a family favorite since then. It literally is used every single day. So don't rule that one out just because the person you are gifting to doesn't drink coffee.

After my hip surgery, I came across this tiny waffle maker at Target. One it is adorable, two it comes in a bunch of colors and three it is perfect for empty nesters who don't want a giant waffle maker. It works really well and heats up really fast too!

2019 Gift Guide for Parents & In Laws | Technology

When it comes to technology, you want to find something unique that you parents or in laws don't already have. My sister in law gifted my mother in law one of those digital picture frames a few years ago and it has been a huge hit. There is an email address we can send pictures to which uploads the pictures into the frame. Which is fun because we can surprise my mother in law with new images.

A nice pinter or a photo printer would also make a really good gift. I know my in laws use their printer on a daily basis!

Do you have a Tile? Do you know what a Tile is? I have been using one since 2016 and I love it. You can attach it to your keys, put one in your wallet or even stick one to a remote or headphones and you can use your phone to locate where your Tile(s) are. There are so many versions and sizes now that I may add a set to my Christmas list because I could definitely use one for my wireless headphones!

2019 Gift Guide for Parents & In Laws | Cold Weather Accessories

Winter is already here (it's 22 degrees in Virginia as I am writing this) so cold weather accessories will be a great gift for in laws or parents. The key to finding the right kind of accessories when you are gifting them is balancing cost and quality. You can buy winter accessories for cheap but they aren't going to last very long. You can also buy very expensive winter accessories but I feel like that can be throwing money away. My biggest suggestion for finding the right balance is to read the reviews. You want to find items that look nice but are also functional and within your price point. I have linked a few below for you!

2019 Gift Guide for Parents & In Laws | Jewelry

Jewelry, especially for moms and mothers in law, is a great idea. But I love the idea of doing something a little more unique than just a set of earrings or a necklace. Something like this would be a really good group gift if you wanted go in on something with your siblings.

A few months ago, I talked about the Kendra Scott Charms collection and how great they would be for a gift. Someone could buy the base piece and others could then add a charm or two. The nice thing about this kind of gift is you can add charms for birthdays and future holidays. You can create a gift than keeps on giving and you don't have to come up with another idea!

I do love gifting something from Made By Mary. I have a necklace with a J stamped on the round disc. I love that I can add more discs as we have more kids. I gifted a similar one to my mom for the Mother's Day after Jackie was born. My mother in law already had something similar that my sister in law had given her so I got her a bar necklace with the name "Nona" (what the grandkids call her) stamped on it. That was a huge hit as well!

2019 Gift Guide for Parents & In Laws | Unique Gifts

Let's talk about gifts that are a little more unique. A few months ago, I did a post about how to buy inexpensive canvases for your home. Gifting a canvas of your family, especially if you do Christmas card pictures, is a really thoughtful and fun gift for parents & in laws. They will appreciate the thought and you can even buy one for yourself at the same time!

I recently found Artifact Uprising which creates custom photo books. They are different than most photo books because you can create lots of different kinds of photo books/items and they would make a great gift, especially if you have had a family reunion or set of family pictures recently that you can use!
