Why You Should Stay in Tulum, Mexico

In 2022, we went to Maya Riviera in Mexico for the first time. We stayed in Tulum instead of Cancun like most people. Here are the reasons why we decided to stay in Tulum and why you should stay in Tulum too!

Why You Should Stay in Tulum, Mexico | Magical Places to Stay Without Resort Prices

Overall, Tulum is a lot less expensive than other parts of Mexico. We stayed in a three bedroom Airbnb house just outside of downtown Tulum and right in the jungle. If you've seen the Disney movie, Encanto, this house reminded us a lot of the Casita in Encanto. That's part of the reason why we chose it and it really was magical. It had three full bathrooms, a kitchen, washer and dryer, a really pretty roof area with a pool, lots of seating and a grilling/eating area.

As an added bonus, there was air conditioning in every single room. We find that Jackie sleeps better and, in turn we sleep better, if she has her own space when we travel. Since this 3 bedroom magical house was so much less expensive for us to stay in than two hotel rooms or a suite in a resort, she was able to have her own space easily.

Why You Should Stay in Tulum, Mexico | Beautiful Quiet Beaches

Most people go to Mexico for the beaches. You may be asking how we get to the beach if we didn't stay in an all inclusive resort. Well, in Tulum there are quite a few beach clubs ranging from more of an adult feel to more family friendly clubs. We spent most of our time at El Pat Beach Club, which we absolutely loved. It was really inexpensive to get a table and some chairs for the entire day and they had food you could order which was comparable to what would you would pay in the US and the service was amazing.

We paid a fee to have access to the beach for the entire day. This was a lot less expensive, even on top of the cost of our Airbnb, than staying in an all-inclusive resort. My husband is not really a beach person, so we weren't at the beach every day, so this set up worked perfectly for us.

Why You Should Stay in Tulum, Mexico | Food and Experiences

The last thing we love about Tulum is the food, shopping and experiences are incredible. I feel like we got a really good Mexican experience because we stayed in Tulum and not in a more touristy area. It does help that my husband is fluent in Spanish, but either way we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves with delicious food, shopping and experiences in Tulum. Stay tuned for a more in-depth look of things to do in Tulum. Links to the magical Air BNB we stayed out below.
