What I Am Sending Back With My Mom From Argentina
If you are new here, my family is living in Buenos Aires, Argentina from June through December of 2024. Now it’s October, we've been here for four months, and we're finally having our first visitors. We're so excited! My parents and two of my cousins are coming to see us. They live only about 20 minutes from us back home in the States, so we're used to seeing them all the time. Not seeing them for four months has made us super homesick so we're all very excited to see them. We are also excited for them to take some things home with them. When we came here, we had 15 pieces of luggage total. We've also accumulated a few things since coming here so sending some stuff home with my parents will make traveling home much easier. So I'll take you along for the ride for what I'm sending home and how I'm packing it up.
What I Am Sending Back With My Mom From Argentina | Items I Sent
It's spring here in Buenos Aires and it will be summer by the time we leave so we don't need our winter clothes anymore. I'm going to send those home with them as well as a few other things. This includes: mine and the kids boots (my husband doesn't really have any), big winter coats and cold weather clothes like sweater dresses. We are sending home quite a few chapter books. We have a bunch of Junie B. Jones and Arthur books we've already finished so they are going home. I brought a backpack for the baby and he hasn't used it at all so that's going back. My mom actually sent him one while we were here so that is staying. I'm also sending home some gifts. I bought some leather wristlets as well as an Argentinian nativity set for Christmas because I love collecting nativities from all over the world. It's in the colors of the Argentine flag and I love it. I sent some of the cute little keychains we've found everywhere here so I've been collecting them to give to family and friends.
What I Am Sending Back With My Mom From Argentina | How I Packed Them
I have a vacuum bag I have gradually been putting stuff into, mostly stuff we haven't used since we got here. Luckily, quite a few things still fit into this bag, I was actually kind of surprised. I really like these specific bags because they are very travel-friendly. When you're traveling, you won't always have access to a vacuum. I got these specific ones off of Amazon because they come with a hand pump. Once the bag is full, you can unscrew the cap and pump the air out. I definitely wasn't able to send everything we have home in one bag so I was grateful I brought a bunch with me when we came down. I put the rest of my clothes in a bag and then put some of the kids clothes in as well. My husband hasn't given me the clothes he wants to send back with my mom yet, so he will have to do that before we pack up this suitcase and send it home. It is warm here in Argentina because it's spring in the southern hemisphere so just having all of this stuff really cleans out our closets of clutter.
As for packing logistics go, my mom is bringing two suitcases down that she is going to take stuff back in. One of those suitcases is full of stuff we desperately needed from the States and the other one will be empty so she can actually take stuff back with her. I'm packing all of the stuff I can up in the large suitcase we have currently just so it's out of the way and packed up and ready for when she gets here. It's nice to know how much stuff we're sending back and how much more room we need so I can plan for that before they get here. I'm so grateful that we have the ability to send stuff back now, it will be really nice to not have to worry about taking everything back with us. However, we have other stuff we have accumulated so we'll still probably have as many pieces of luggage as we came down with.
Stay tuned for the post where I'll share what I had my mom bring to us since there are some things we can really only get in the States.
