Seed Bead Letter Bracelet Tutorial | Crafting
I have always loved crafting. It has changed over the years but anything that allows me to be creative and make something I can keep or give as a gift has always been fun. During this time of social distancing and craziness in the world, sewing or making something has been incredibly soothing so I have tried to do as much as I can.
I am also always looking for activities for the older girls to do so they will stay off their iPads. A lot of the stuff we have done so far has been messy or required a lot of attention and/or supervision from me. I kept seeing seed bead bracelets and I knew this would be a fun and easy activity for the girls to do and they could do it on and off for months. I loved the idea of making them myself too. We needed the seed beads for some other projects we are going to do so this was a great way to use up the extra ones!
Seed Bead Letter Bracelet Tutorial | Finding Beads
You can get beads on Amazon, from Target, Michaels & Joanne's. There are so many different kinds, you need to decide what you want and what you plan on using them for. For the seed beads, I knew you could buy sets where the beads were already sorted by color but I wanted the nice beads you find at Michaels for some other projects we have planned. You also get a wider variety of beads in this kind of set. So I went with this set of unsorted beads. While we do have to sort through the beads to find what we want, it keeps the girls busy longer so I'm not complaining!
There are so many different kinds of letters you can get for these kinds of bracelets. I liked the idea of having options so I bought this set and this set. The girls have loved using the square rainbow letters, and so have I! The silver, gold and round letters have been great for more adult looking bracelets.
Seed Bead Letter Bracelet Tutorial | Making The Bracelets
In order to make the bracelets, you are going to want some stretchy string. While it seems almost elastic, it's not, so it is much easier to get right now! Some bead sets come with string but not much so I would suggest buying a large roll of it, like this.
Measure the wrist you will be making a bracelet for and make sure you will have enough extra string on each end of the bracelet to tie it off when you are done. Make sure to tie a knot on one end so your beads don't start falling off when you start threading them! Some people like to use needles to help them thread the beads, but I haven't found the need for them!
I do suggest finding the beads you want for your bracelet before you start it, especially if you are using unsorted beads. This will save you a lot of time and frustration.
Make sure that you make the bracelet long enough that it won't be too tight on the wearer, or too big. When you are finished, tie it off and trip the ends!
