Save vs Splurge
Save vs Splurge
I have been thinking/writing this post in my head for awhile now. I am a big bargain shopper. I love nice looking things but I hate paying a lot of money for them, especially since I cycle through things. I don't want to put a ton of money into something that I will end up getting rid of or selling in a few years. That is where save vs. splurge comes in. I try really hard to find dupes for products that I love so that I don't end up paying a ton of money for something. I am probably best at thing when it comes to purses but I have gotten pretty good at it with other items too.
Today, I want to show you some of my favorite things that I have done comparisons for and which item I ended up with, because sometimes the more expensive item is better!
Shoes
Sam Edelman Pom Shoesvs.Target Pom Shoes
These shoes are so on trend right now. They came out last Winter and I fell in love with them right away. I actually bought the Sam Edelman pair last year when I was trying to find cute, comfy shoes I could wear in the Winter. I wasn't able to wear my boots when I was pregnant because they destroyed my feet! Anyway, Target came out with a similar pair for their Fall line this year. They are super cute, and less than half the price.
I did try a pair of the Target ones on in the store and I have to say I live the Same Edelman ones better! They look better and I feel like they are better materials and will last longer. The winner here are the Sam Edelman shoes.
Clothes
Burberry London 'Sandringham' Slim Trench Coat vs. Banana Republic Water-Resistant Classic Trench
Who doesn't want a Burberry Trench? I think I have wanted one since middle school. But who can afford a Burberry Trench? Definitely not me! There are a lot of dupes out there for this classic look but my favorite by far is the one from Banana Republic.
I have this exact trench from Banana Republic in black and I love it! It has the classic cut you look for in a trench coat, without the price tag of the Burberry version. The winner is the Banana Republic trench.
Handbags
Celine Micro Luggage Bag vs. Henri Bendel Rivington Convertible Tote
This has to be one of my favorite save vs splurge comparisons. I have been eyeing this Celine bag for years. It is such a classic bag and I love the neutral color. I know that there are a lot of bloggers that have this bag, but I just couldn't (still can't) afford to buy a bag for almost $3,000! So I did a lot of searching. I wanted something that was very similar to the Celine bag but I didn't want it to look like a rip off. This Spring, I found the Henri Bendel Rivington Convertible tote. I love that you get 2 bags out of this one. It is also BIGGER than the Celine bag. I ended up purchasing it in the Chipmunk color (which is now out of stock) and I LOVE it. The leather is amazing and the size is perfect. I do want to mention that I did NOT pay $450 for my bag. I always wait for a sale. I was able to combine a sale and a coupon code and purchased my bag for less than half of the retail price! It is just what I wanted out of the Celine bag, but at a much better price point. The winner here is the Henri Bendel bag.
Chloe 'Marcie - Medium' Leather Crossbody Bag vs. Rebecca Minkoff Vanity Saddle Bag
I do have a disclaimer on this one. I do not own either one of these bags. I do like them both, however. Surprisingly these bags are very similar in size. The Chloe bag is a little deeper than the Rebecca Minkoff bag, but considering how tall and wide the Rebecca Minkoff bag is, I don't see how that would make too much of a difference. I love that the Rebecca Minkoff bag is a great alternative to the Chloe bag, while still maintaining the classic Rebecca Minkoff look. The winner here is the Rebecca Minkoff bag.
