The Pig & Pint, Or How I Stopped Worrying And Learned to Love Eating Tacos Inside An Old Gas Station In Mississippi
I found myself in Jackson, Mississippi for several weeks working with a client. One of the pleasures of traveling someplace new is seeking out new restaurants serving up tasty delights. Given our location in the deep South, I figured that barbecue was an obvious choice. After conducting a little bit of research (something I have become famous for) I found a local joint called The Pig and Pint (P&P) located inside of a refurbished gas station in a bohemian neighborhood near Jackson, Mississippi. To be honest my first impression was not great. I was expecting more of an "authentic" down home joint instead of the hipster's paradise standing in front of me. However, I decided to put my bias against our urban neo-bohemian friends aside and judge the P&P on what matters most, the food. Normally I would judge a BBQ joint on either their pulled pork or on their beef brisket. However, I decided to take the road less-travelled and try the tacos. There was one beef, one pork and one chicken taco on my plate. They were tasty and I walked away satisfied. I would not call it the best BBQ I have ever eaten, but it definitely held its own.Recommendation level: moderate to high
