“Linner” at Mother’s In New Orleans
If you have spent much time in New Orleans, there is a good chance you have heard of Mother’s. Mother’s is a very popular soul food dive on Common Street, which is in between the French Quarter and the Garden District. After a long day of meetings and working with a client nearby, we stopped in for a “linner” (late lunch/early dinner). We were both very hungry and Mother’s delivered both in terms of quality and quantity.he first thing you will notice when walking into Mother’s is the friendly staff who greet you at the door. After that, you will probably notice the eclectic décor. There are pictures everywhere. Most of the pictures relate to New Orleans, the New Orleans Saints, famous former customers, or the US Marine Corps (I assume the owner, or someone related to the owner served in the Marine Corps). It feels like a place that has been well-loved, both by the staff and by patrons. Mother’s is famous for ham and other kinds of soul food. Because I have a weakness for andouille sausage, I decided to indulge in some jambalaya with some green beans and red beans & rice. The combination of my extreme hunger along with the deliciousness of the food made for one amazing eating experience.Chuck had the brisket sandwich, which is something they are famous for. They serve it in brown gravy with small pieces of meat and call it debris (pronounced “deb ree”). I have had it before and can attest to its deliciousness. We then decided to overdo it and eat the bread pudding. It was tasty, but I was bursting by that point in the meal. I rolled out of Mother’s fat and happy. If you are in the mood for tasty, down to earth soul food, then I heartily endorse Mother’s.
