Latest United Experience

I have been very vocal on how I feel about United Airlines. You can ready my open letters to them here and here.My dad and I were scheduled to leave for a trip to Europe for the week on Sunday January 24. You can read about the entire itinerary here. Due to the massive amount of snow that Snow Storm Jonas dropped on the East Coast, we were unable to fly out of DC. United cancelled the flight. Thankfully they were great about rescheduling the flight. It only took me 30 minutes to get a new flight on Monday January 25 at 5:40 pm.We went to the airport and boarded the plane. Not 10 minutes later, one of the flight attendants came on the intercom and asked that everyone get off the plane due to a maintenance problem. Once everyone was off the plane, a United employee made an announcement that the flight was delayed due to a lack of enough flight attendants. We had been on the business class upgrade list, using two of my dad’s upgrade vouchers he gets from United for being a Million Miler.  The flight was delayed 4 times before they finally cancelled the flight at 11 pm. We went home and rescheduled again for the next day. We were able to keep our upgraded business class seats when we rescheduled the flight.I did receive an email the next day from United apologizing for the flight cancellation, and explaining that the cancellation was due to a landing gear issue. We were offered either mileage points or a voucher for $200 for a future United flight. I was impressed by this. Usually United doesn’t acknowledge why they cancelled a flight.The next day we went to the airport and because my dad is a United Million Mile Member, we went to the Club Lounge. When we checked in, they asked us to go to the First Class lounge instead. There was a lot more food there than in the normal lounge, and it was good food too! We were able to board the plane and it actually took off! The dinner in business class was pretty good, I would say the highlight was the create your own sundae bar! Thanks for reading!
