How To Support Small Businesses During a Crisis | Social Distancing & Small Businesses

By now, most of the US is practicing social distancing. If you aren't, shame on you. This is when we can stop the spread of a virus that is showing it can be serious for everyone. We are being asked to stay home so that other's will not get sick. Many people have lost their jobs and income due to this. So if you aren't a necessary business or worker, what are you doing?

In the mean time, this is a great time for us to help support small businesses in the country. In the US there are over 30 million, yes MILLION, small business. Some of them are fighting to continue to pay their employees and stay open. Some won't reopen after this crisis. Most, if not all, have been impacted in some way by this crisis. So today, I want to talk about how to support small businesses during a crisis.

How To Support Small Businesses During a Crisis | Supporting without Spending

There are many people who have lost their incomes and don't have the money to spend on small businesses. That is ok. You need to focus on staying afloat and that's important. But there are things you can do without spending any money to support small businesses.

Social media is a powerful tool. We can share our favorite small businesses on our social media so that others who do have the funds to shop, can. We can like and comment on their posts to increase their engagement. If you are spending a bunch of time on social media anyway because you are hanging out at home, this is an easy and fast way to support those small businesses you love.

How To Support Small Businesses During a Crisis | Support Online

If you are in a position to support small business by making a purchase, I have rounded up some of our favorites where you can buy something online!

Busy Toddler - this is where I got the curriculum I am doing with Jackie right now. She is offering 25% off her preschool programs so it's a great time to buy!

Camp Castle Play Mats - we have two of these play mats and I just ordered a third. I have also bought one of her digital downloads and had it printed at my local Fedex for $10! She is sending out free printables right now if you sign up for her email list, and we have been loving them! This is another easy way to support a small business without buying anything.

Charly and Co. - I recently discovered this darling shop and I love their cute rainbows!

Cozzy Co - We have loved all of our darling pieces from Cozzy Co. You probably remember our Winnie The Pooh set that she did custom for us, that you can now get from her shop too!

Doughsie Dough - We love this shop! These cute play dough kits come in a bunch of different themes and sizes. We have the larger Safari kit and the smaller Farm kit.

Fancy Frills Boutique - I have loved this shop for a long time and the dress in today's pictures is from here!

For the Love of Crafts by RBT - You all know my love for all things Disney and love Sabrina's farmhouse take on it. I have a bunch of different things from her shop. You do need to keep an eye on when her next sale is and be prepared to get what you want because items sell out fast!

Ivy City Co - You should remember last week's post featuring our Ivy City Co matching mommy and me dresses! I love the designs these women have created and that they make matching mini dresses too.

Lates By Kate - These are hands down my favorite pjs and night gowns. They are comfy, soft and you can actually live in them! She is doing a sale that goes through today!

Line Upon Line - If you are looking for scriptures, especially journaling ones, these will be perfect! I love these and have gifted their study scriptures as well. They also have stickers!

Loopy Cases - I am addicted to my Loopy Case for my phone. If I get a new phone, I have to order a new case ASAP. But since it keeps me from dropping my phone and I can still carry it along with everything else I need to carry, it's a good thing.

Made By Mary - I bought a disc necklace from here with a J on it right before Jackie was born and I have worn it every day since she was born. This shop has the most special pieces and you can find a special gift for anyone here.

Make It Minnie - I love these cute jewelry designs! They are dainty and subtly Disney, so I can wear them every day. I am wearing one of them in today's pictures!

Moon & June Co - this small business is another recent find. I love these cute pouches and they would be great for keeping yourself organized if you are homeschooling!

Nugget - Sadly they have closed their production and their offices. We did get our Nugget just before this happened, which I was really happy about. But they are going to do a restock and presale this week. This will guarantee your products and help them be able to open back up later down the line.

Pink Desert - This is another boutique I have buying from for years. They have the cutest clothes and just released their newest swim line, including a bunch of mommy & me styles!

Rad + Happy - I love my Rad + Happy Planner and our Color Happy subscription has been a life saver over the last few weeks. Tara added a huge number of pages to this month's Color Happy and is also sending out a bunch of free printables!

Roolee - This cute store is located in Logan, Utah, where I went to college! The Husband and I met there so Logan holds a special place in our hearts. My sister in law picked one if their dresses as a bride maids dress for her wedding later this year.

Saranoni - We love our Saranoni blankets. We have three of our own and then I gift them ALL THE TIME. This is another Logan, Utah based business!

Spark Hope Boutique - My Instagram friend Katie has started this cute jewelry boutique and is hoping to open it at the end of the month. Since she hasn't opened yet, you can support her by signing up for her email list!

Twenty Eight 12 - I recently refound this cute shop and have been buying their garlands for our entry way. Turns out I had bought some things from them a few years ago too! I think their products are really cute and affordable.

Taylor Joelle - Jackie LOVES her Taylor Joelle dresses. She has a few, and is getting another one for her birthday. If you are reading this post on the day it is published, you can also catch the preorder they are doing with 16 new styles! You can get 20% off when you use the code MARCH20 during the pre order period.

Work + Wonder - If you are a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, this one is for you. Our General Conference, when we hear from the leaders of our church, is coming up the first weekend in April. Work + Wonder has the most beautiful notebooks for taking notes and writing down the guidance we receive. They always feature artists in their notebooks and I happen to know the artist whose work is on the table of contents page!

How To Support Small Businesses During a Crisis | Support Local

Just because you can shop online, doesn't mean you can't support the local small business too! One of the best ways to do it is to order food from local restaurants, instead of chains. These businesses need your support too! But if you do live in the Northern Virginia area, here are a few small businesses that we love that you can support!

Go Bananas Toys - This is an Ashburn toy store that has everything for newborns to teenagers. They just did a get a restock of puzzles if you are interested and have a lot of cute Easter basket items!

The Difference Baker - I don't think I can say enough about this Bakery. They focus on allergen free foods and do such an amazing job. To maintain the safety of everyone, they have closed the bakery but are doing online orders that you can pick up in front of the bakery the next day!

The Baekehaus - I met this sweet woman at a German Christmas market a few years ago and it turned out her daughter and my cousin were in the same preschool class! She makes German baked goods but also does custom cakes and cookies!

AR Workshop Reston & AR Workshop Loudoun - Looking for something for your kids to do? They have DIY Grab and Go Kits that you can pick up from the shops! This is a great way to support small businesses and keep your kids busy.
