2023 Recap

DIY

2023 was quite the year, both for our family and content wise! Let's do a quick little recap of the year as a whole.

2023 Recap | January-June

First, I completely changed up the first floor of our house, making it much more sophisticated and giving us a lot more storage and an awesome new couch.

I redid the closet under the stairs so it was no longer tool storage, but instead became a play and toy storage closet for my daughter.

I turned the third floor loft area, which was serving as a guest room and a playroom, into the nursery/guest room while also redoing the closet and reconfiguring the couch. One of the bigger projects in this space was taking apart the desk and turning the desk ends into nightstands. When I did that, I decided to repaint them so they matched the dressers I redid in 2022.

I made a really cute pom-pom wreath as an end of pregnancy project, which worked for my Christmas decorations, but is also perfect for spring and summer.

In March of 2023, I had a baby which is definitely the biggest project I did this year. We are SO obsessed with baby brother and all of the joy he has brought to our family this year!

I finished redoing our closet before my husband went back to work from paternity leave. This was definitely one of the most functional projects of this year.

I added pullout drawers for our kitchen cabinets, which gave us a lot more access to all of the space in the cabinets and now I want to add them all over our house.

2023 Recap | July-December

I created quite a few more digital downloads but very specifically the home binder series. There are a lot of these now and you can access them all on my site.

I updated our family emergency kits which was very popular with all of you. I will be adding a few things to these in 2024 (I had SO many great suggestions from you) so keep an eye out for that.

I built a new workbench because the one I built last year couldn't handle the weight. I built one that would slide over the big storage space and still give me a lot of space for cutting and for doing big projects. This project was SO necessary because I use it all of the time.

I painted my daughter's sensory stepping stones. We didn't love the color on this favorite toy so I decided to paint it and they came out really cute.

I fixed the "concrete" pumpkin tower. I don't think it was actually concrete despite what the label said, because it was completely crushed in the mail.

With the help of my husband and an incredible friend, we came out with a Spanish version of the activity boards/visual schedule boards, which gives access to accommodations like these to a lot more people.

I made shelves for my neighbor's booth at a local vendor store. This was the first non-family member project I ever did, which was super nerve wracking, but also very exciting!

I made four large blankets. I've never done that before and it was actually really fun. I did it because the baby has grown out of all of his baby blankets and needs much, much bigger blankets, and I thought it'd be fun to make some. I may start doing that more in 2024.

Last, I went and bought a bunch of live edge wood slabs from a local lumber yard. I prepped those and used epoxy resin to make a headboard for my bed. It was my first time working with live edge wood as well as resin but it turned out SO well. It is absolutely gorgeous and I love it. I'm excited to work more with these materials in 2024!

So that was just a few highlights from 2023. I have a lot of stuff planned and we have some really exciting things coming in 2024. Stick around and thanks for being here!
