Tile Alternatives for the Letterfolk Tile Mat

Tile Alternatives for Letterfolk Tile Mat

I bought a Letterfolk Tile Mat back in 2020 when we moved into this house. I have created a number of posts with different designs, videos have gone viral on TikTok, you could say I turned into a Tile Mat creator (I’m kidding). You can find my FAQs post here if you are interested. A few years ago, Letterfolk was bought by Pattern Brands. Pattern Brands said they would continue to manufacture the mat and the tiles but slowly, over time, more and more tile colors were phased out and now you can’t buy the Tile Mat at all. The last Letterfolk Instagram post was in February 2025, almost 18 months ago. Considering the Tile Mat was featured on the Today Show, Magnolia, Apartment Therapy, Better Homes & Gardens and Real Simple, it is surprising and disappointing that Pattern Brands has abandoned Letterfolk completely. The website is gone and there isn’t anywhere to purchase the mat or additional tiles. But they left up the Tile Mat landing page, can’t miss out on SEO hits! Can you tell I am disappointed in Pattern Brands? And I know I’m not the only one. Look at the comments on the Letterfolk social media accounts and customers want to know what happened.

I can’t do anything about Pattern Brands deciding not to make the Tile Mat anymore. I do have a lot of tile colors I was able to buy or was gifted before all of this happened. I am now on the fence about making additional content about my Tile Mat because I know how frustrating it is find that kind of content and not be able to buy any of the items mentioned. However, I decided I would try to find tile alternatives to share with you! I found three different options on Etsy I am going to share with you today. I used all three of them on my mat and then placed the mat in it’s usual spot on our front porch for 10 days to see how well they held up.

I decided on three sets of tiles. The pink ones are from Oliver3DCreations, the orange ones are from AugustJoyCreative, and the yellow ones are from DeckHalter.

The pink set was very rigid and difficult to manipulate. The listing I purchased was for the hard plastic and the shop does have a flexible plastic option (I may try that one and let you know on social media!). This set did come with a tool to remove the tile from the mat, which was really helpful during this experiment! This set of tiles were harder to place onto the mat and I was honestly worried they wouldn’t stay on but they held up a lot better than I was expecting.

The orange set were the most flexible but I think because they are softer, they did come slightly scuffed up and weren’t as nice looking as the other two sets of tiles. They did stay on the mat really well however, the best of the group! So aesthetics aren’t always everything.

The yellow set was also very rigid but they were my favorite by far to work with. They went onto the mat easily and stayed on really nicely. I thought they had really good spacing on the mat. I was pretty sure these would be the best of the bunch but I lost 2 tiles off the mat during my 10 day experiment, so they actually did the worst of the three!

I did a simple tulip design for the mat, using the three alternative tiles for the flowers and the green tiles I used were some of my original Letterfolk tiles. I placed the mat on our front porch, just outside our front door, where it always goes. I left it there for 10 days to see how well the new tiles would hold up to a Southeastern Tennessee summer and all the wear the mat usually gets from the stroller, packages and regularly walking on it. I was surprised 10 days later when I went to check on it and I was only missing 3 tiles, I really thought more of the pink ones would have come up. The most surprising thing was that 2 of the missing 3 tiles were from the yellow set!

The yellow set were my favorite to work with, but I think the orange set wins!
