The Great Diaper Bag Comparison | What I Look For In A Diaper Bag

I wrote a blog post about why I bought the bags I bought, before I had Jackie. You can read all about that here. It's funny how our expectations differ from reality, especially when it comes to parenting. I am working on a whole seperate blog post on just that. But I thought I knew exactly what I wanted in a diaper bag. I had done enough babysitting and nannying that I thoughht I knew what I was talking about. I was so wrong!

Now, I am picker than ever when it comes to diaper bags. They MUST have a backpack option. Otherwise, I am not interested. When you are carrying around a toddler who is trying to wiggle out of your grasp and run around Target as they pick things off shelves, you need to have both hands free and a full range of motion. You can only get that from a backpack. I do love diaper bags that have multiple wearing options, i.e. removable crossbody straps, backpack straps, top handle. That makes my life easier. I like lots of pockets and the ability to put bottles in the outside pockets. It has to wipe clean and look good.

Now, let's talk about these three diaper bags!

The Great Diaper Bag Comparison | Freshly Picked

This is my most recently purchased diaper bag. I took a long time to research this bag and think about it before I actually bought it. I also joined the Fringe and bought it during a sale. So I got a great deal on it! When this bag was released, it was gifted to a bunch of bloggers who then shared about it. I saw it all over social media and I kept thinking I needed one. But then I would remind myself that I already had THREE diaper bags, two of which were backpacks, so I didn't need another one. Then one of those bloggers showed how the bag fit tons of stuff in it. I was sold. I waited for a sale. While I waited, the Fringe program was introduced. I couldn't pass up 20% off, so I joined. When the sale finally happened, I was able to buy the bag for $112. Considering it is usually $175, that is a major discount!

The bag comes in several colors and I know they are releasing more for Fall. I love this butterscotch color because it goes with everything. The outside side pockets can hold bottles, water bottles, cups, you name it. The front zipper pocket has come in handy for when I want to hide my keys from Jackie. The back pocket works for not only hiding the backpack straps when they aren't in use but also for putting my phone or loose papers in. The zipper top closure and flap make it easy to get in and out of. Inside, there are 5 pockets, including a zipper and a laptop sleeve. I can put my laptop, 3 full Truffle bags, my wallet, diapers, wipes, snacks, toys, bibs and an extra outfit in here without even blinking. And yes, it still zips up. It may weigh more than Jackie does, but it gets the job done. I would honestly buy it in every color if it made financial sense. I have also heard that the newer version (already released) has an insulated pocket!

The Great Diaper Bag Comparison | Fawn Design

I want to clairfy that this is the older version of the Fawn Design bag. I bought mine in early 2017 when I was still pregnant. This bag has been redesigned since then. The newer version came out in Summer 2018.

I was super excited when I bought this bag. I originally bought it in the blush color. I ended up loving the bag so much, I bought it in this plum color too. It is a great diaper bag that gets the job done. It is one the smaller side when compared to the other two diaper bags in this post. I do love that it is a backpack and a crossbody bag. Anything that is dual purpose is my jam. There are 5 pockets, one of them being a zipper pocket. I would say that if you are trying to carry around a lot of stuff, this is not the bag for you. I did find that I had trouble getting all of my stuff in there over time, which is why I like the Freshly Picked bag better. I do know that a lot of other people love this bag though!

The Great Diaper Bag Comparison | Kate Spade

This one was a gift from my mom. I always wanted a kate spade diaper bag. While it is pretty, it just isn't as functional as the other two bags. It is a shoulder bag, making it harder to carrying around, while also carrying around a child. I took it with us when we went to the beach in April and The Husband was mad at me the entire time because I brought this one instead of one of the backpacks! That should be telling. It does come with a diaper changing pad and straps to attach it to a stroller. But it is just not as functional or organized as the other two bags.
