Peaches in Southern Virginia
We had decided that we were going to look for peaches while we were in Virginia Beach. We haven't had much luck finding them in our grocery stories and most farmer's markets don't have them yet. I had done a little research before we left and found Mount Pleasant Farms online. They advertised on their website that they had fresh peaches for purchase. So when it was time to head back up to Northern Virginia and back to reality, we climbed in the car and I plugged the Chesapeake, VA address into Google Maps. After driving through the back woods of swamping Virginia, we arrived at what looked like the right place. There were several farms around and a very obvious store. We got the kids out of the car and went inside to check it out. Turns out we had stopped one farm too early. But this farm had a petting zoo! So we wandered around and let the girls look at the animals. The piglets were a big hit!We then got back in the car and headed next door. Turns out this was the right place. While my mom went inside the beautiful barn-like building, I hung outside with the girls so they could play. There was a huge play train made of wood as well as a wood tractor. For some reason there were a bunch of hay bales that were painted to look like movie and TV characters. The girls had a ton of fun and were exhausted by the time they got back in the car. The peaches we got were pretty good but I still think it is a bit early in the season!
