North Carolina: Our Car Accident
On July 5, the husband and I were in North Carolina for my cousin's wedding. We were staying in a hotel with the rest of my family. We had driven up in our jeep and were getting ready to leave. We had decided to take two cars to the wedding in case anyone wanted to leave before the end of the night. We were waiting at the stoplight just in front of the hotel to turn left. When the green arrow for a left turn appeared, we followed the car in front of us into the intersection, turning left onto a major road.Out of no where, a car came blasting through the red light and hit the back driver's side of our Jeep. We spun two full times in the middle of the intersection before coming to a sudden stop. I remember bracing myself against the door of the car and screaming. I was having trouble breathing once the car stopped but I heard yelling. A woman opened my door and helped pull me out of the car. Another woman was helping the husband out of his side of the car. The two woman helped us push the car out of the middle of the intersection and onto the grassy shoulder. I was on the phone yelling for my parents to come to the intersection from the hotel, telling them someone had hit us.One of the woman who had helped us out of the car ran down the street after the car that hit us. I am pretty sure she kept them from leaving the accident. Another person called 911 and the fire department showed up within a few minutes because their station was just up the road. They helped us move the car further off of the road and checked us out for injuries. Thankfully, neither the Husband nor I were hurt. The driver's side window air bag had deployed so when the Husband's head hit the window, he wasn't hitting the glass. I truly think the airbag saved him from a bad head injury. The police officer arrived after about 10 minutes. He kept us separate from the other driver and his passengers. We gave our statements about what happened. The police officer then went and talked to the other driver. He came back to report that the other driver was claiming that we had run the red light and he had only run a yellow light. I was furious. I knew we hadn't run the light and we had followed another car into the intersection when we had a green light. Luckily the two woman who had witnessed the accident and helped me and the Husband out of the car had waited for the police to arrive. They both gave their accounts of the accident, which was that the other driver ran the red light and hit us.I am so grateful to these two woman and their families for staying at the scene after they saw the accident. They helped us get out of the car and to safety and they also caught the other driver in his lie. Those two woman didn't have to stay but they did. I will always appreciate Southern Hospitality and I will always stop when I see an accident happen.Luckily neither one of us were hurt and we made it to my cousin's wedding in time for the reception and enjoyed ourselves! Our car was taken to a shop in South Carolina where we were living so the damaged could be assessed.Check back in tomorrow to find out how we got back to South Carolina and what happened to our Jeep!
