Lufthansa Lounge Dulles Airport
As Emily and I headed to Warsaw, Poland, we tried something new taking Lufthansa's new "Premium Economy" class of service. It's much cheaper than Business and only slightly more expensive than regular coach class. (I will talk more about Lufthansa's Premium Economy in another blog post.)This blog post is dedicated to the Lufthansa lounge at Dulles airport. I've become familiar with some of the lounges at Dulles and can say that they are not all created equal. We pay an annual fee to use the United Red Carpet Club Lounge. While the lounge is substantial in size, it is grossly lacking in food offerings and presentation. We had access to the Lufthansa lounge because of my Star Alliance Gold status. So Emily and I were able to enjoy the lounge as we departed from one of the B gates at Dulles and thus were very close to the Lufthansa lounge. They had hearty sandwiches on pretzel rolls, soft rolls, or tortilla roll ups. There were hot dishes to choose from including chicken with roasted vegetables and spaghetti squash. There were snacks if you were just in the mood for a drink and a few snacks. Then there were desserts. Yummy desserts. Even one that Em and I could eat--a delicious rice pudding with caramelized lemon peel.Their food display was impressive. If you are a drinker, they also have a full bar and the staff pleasantly brings drinks to wherever you are sitting. Our flight was delayed slightly. When it was time for boarding, we were able to board directly from the lounge. Etihad also provides this service. It is a wonderful amenity--imagine not having to go out of the lounge into the terminal through the airport to find your gate. You just pass through a gate check at the lounge and walk down a glass corridor to the jetway. It's wonderful! The Lufthansa lounge is on the smaller side but very comfortable. We were there about an hour before we boarded our flight and enjoyed every minute!
