How To Get A Visa
You have your passport and it's time to go on your trip. Wait!!!!! Have you checked to make sure that you don't need a visa for the country you are going to? US citizens have an advantage when it comes to getting into a lot of countries. It has gotten to wear you don't need a visa or you can purchase one when you land for most countries (there are exceptions and I will address those). You can find a map of the countries US citizens don't need visas for here.Getting A Visa On ArrivalBe sure you know ahead of time how much it will cost for you to get a visa upon arrival. Then multiply that number by two and have it in cash. Most countries require that you purchase the visa in cash so this is very important. You want to have more than enough cash on hand because the cost of the visas can change without notice. When we went to Jordan in June, we had been told that the cost of a visa was 20 JOD each. We were prepared for three times that amount which was good because the price had jumped up to 40 JOD each. We would have had to get more cash at the airport and the exchange rates can be insane! I have complied a list of the countries that require a visa upon arrival below.

Getting A Visa Before You LeaveThere are some countries that require that you get a visa before you even get on the plane. Some, like Australia, only require that you apply online and you can print out your visa. Others, like Saudi Arabia, require that you go down to the embassy to submit your application, have an interview and get a background check. Be sure that you check the embassy website of the country you will be visiting for all of the information. Try to give yourself several months in advance to make sure you have enough time to get your visa.
