Finding the Right Work Bag For You | Why I Needed One

After I had Jackie, most of the bags I used were either small crossbody bags that I used when I wasn’t with her or a diaper bag. So I started getting rid of other bags, mostly work bags, that I wasn’t using. Over time, I only had one work bag left. It’s white and while I love it, I wanted something another color.

So I started looking for a bag. I decided to take my time doing this, I wanted something specific. And I found it. After I found what I was looking for, I thought about all the places I looked and what my specifics for this bag were and thought you all might want to know what those were! So today I want to talk about finding the right work bag for you.

Let’s talk about about what my specifics were. I wanted a cognac colored bag, that light brown color. To me, this was the perfect neutral I could use year round and goes with everything. The bag needed to be big enough to fit my laptop and my planner, plus my wallet, charging cords, and anything else I would need to carry around. But I was also only going to spend $250 maximum.

Aside from space and color, I was also looking for something very specific when it came to the interior structure of the bag. I wanted something with lots of pockets. One fo those pockets being an interior center pocket for my laptop, preferably one that zipped. I like having a middle laptop pocket because it adds more structure to the bag and helps me with organization.

Can I say I looked everywhere? Amazon, DSW, Tory Burch, Michael Kors, Coach, Kate Spade, Nordstrom, Sole Society. I looked during sales, when things were full price, everything. There were two bags that I thought would work but one was out of my budget and the other didn't come in the right color. So I kept looking.

I did end up buying a bag from Kate Spade when they did a 30% off sale. I was sure to measure my laptop and compare it to the bag measurements to make sure it would fit. The bag came and the interior zip pocket was too small. So I sent it back. And took a trip to our local outlets. While we do have outlets within about 30 minutes of us, getting out there alone without Jackie can be hard. But The Husband came home a little early from work one day and we went out to the outlets as a family. I was trying to find a new work bag before a work conference that was scheduled for the second week in March, which was canceled.

Finding the Right Work Bag For You | What I Ended Up Getting

Our outlets are awesome. If you are ever in the DC area and have the time, head out to the Leesburg Premium Outlets. The only other outlets I have seen like the ones in Leesburg are in Orlando.

Tory Burch, Coach, Kate Spade and Michael Kors are all within the same part of the outlets so we found a parking spot near by and The Husband took Jackie to the play area. I went into the Kate Spade outlet and didn't find anything like what I was looking for. But Tory Burch had exactly what I wanted. The only difference was the entire bag zipped shut instead of just the middle zipper pocket. But I like having the entire bag zipped closed so I was thrilled!

This is the Tory Burch Emerson tote. It does come in a few sizes and a bunch of colors. You can find it online and I have linked a few of them below. This bag was the exact color I wanted, had an interior, middle laptop pocket, 4 additional interior slide pockets and another interior zip pocket. This bag is HUGE. I am even able to put my collapsable tripod in it! I am so glad that I took my time to find the bag I wanted, within my budget.
