This chair has been a long time in the making. A friend was getting rid of a pair of chairs and I just happened to be looking for a pair of chairs. She was happy to pass them off to me!
I decided to do the chairs in two different fabrics, I will be showing you the other chair in a few months. I chose a blue velvet for this chair. I wanted something with texture but also something that would last. I found this amazingly soft and beautiful velvet from Mood Fabrics, which also comes in about 10 other colors. Sadly they didn’t have the right shade of pink that I wanted for the other chair.
I removed EVERYTHING from this chair. It actually sat like this in our family room for a few weeks while I waited for the fabric to come in. The Hubby decided he liked it and tried to convince me to leave it as is. That wasn’t appealing.
Don’t mind the mess behind the chair. This was during that huge snow storm we had in January when we got 3 feet of snow. I was able to get a good chunk of the chair done during that time including the piping. I had never done piping before this project and was actually really intimidated by it. Once I started using it though, I loved it! Clearly piping has a purpose and once you get the hang of it, it can be incredibly helpful. I used the original fabric from the chair to cut the patterns for the velvet. This made sewing all of the pieces together much easier.
Right as I was about to start making the cushion for the chair, my sewing machine broke. Well it didn’t really break, the timing needed to be fixed. But the process of finding someone to fix it and getting it fixed took about a month. Which is why this is an entire month late…Turns out there is a sewing shop really close to my house and they fix machines. If you are in the Northern Virginia Area, go see Precious at Sew Magarbo. She is so sweet and got my machine back to my in two weeks.
I was very nervous about sewing the cushion for this chair since it is such an odd shape. I spent a lot of time ignoring the chair and putting off doing it. I decided this last weekend I just needed to do it. It took about 30 minutes to get it done and I love how it turned out!
I am in love with how this chair turned out. Chairs are different than couches so I am pretty proud of myself. I learned a lot doing this chair and I wish I had done a few things differently but I will happily display this chair in my home.
